The New York Knicks made a further push to bolster their lineup this week by acquiring the services of eccentric guard J.R. Smith. Smith has been playing in the Chinese Basketball Association this year and was not permitted to leave the team until the season came to a close. Many teams were in pursuit of the former Nugget, but he ultimately ended up choosing the Knicks.

With J.R. Smith and Carmelo Anthony now in a Knick uniform, two of the center points in the Knicks vs Nuggets brawl have now joined the Knicks in an interesting turn of fate. Mike D’Antoni didn’t sound too excited about the acquisition of Smith, with the NY coach perhaps afraid once again that an influx of new players will once against disrupt his team at a time when they finally seem to be coming together.
J.R. Smith will most likely come off the bench for a spark of offense – as you would imagine there won’t be too many spare possessions between Lin, Anthony and Stoudemire.
The Knicks won’t be counting on any sort of Smithsanity to develop but they hope to better match-up with the likes of Miami and Chicago would are much more talent stacked than themselves.
