The UFC welterweight division is among the most stacked in all of the sport, and with GSP out with an injury, many of the contenders are trying to set themselves up for an eventual title shot. Two of the closest to getting a shot at the belt are Josh Koscheck and Johnny Hendricks.
Hendricks is coming off of a devastating 7 second knockout of UFC ironman Jon Fitch. Koscheck is close buddies with his former AKA teammate and would like nothing more than exacting revenge on his behalf.
Koscheck won a close decision over Mike Pierce at UFC 143 and some, including UFC president Dana White, believed that Pierce deserved to win. Regardless, Koshcheck has added another W to the win column and is probably two steps away from getting his third crack at the title. Few would like to see GSP vs Koscheck III so the All-American wrestler will have to demonstrate an improvement in his game or hope that Condit becomes the unified Champion – at which point a very interesting match could be setup.
Overlooking Hendricks would be a mistake however, as his punching power has already been on clear display and his wrestling might just very well be on Koscheck’s level. With the two fighter’s wrestling cancelling each other out, this could be a battle to see who lands their heymaker first. Koscheck said that for this fight he’s definitely motivated, and he will most definitely need to be on top of his game to earn a win this time around.
